Onwards

Onwards was my response to a university brief around making sustainable dry food packaging. I decided to design customisable advent calenders that could be used to count down towards any special day. The design of the calenders allows them to be used to count down four weeks or mixed and matched to count down 12 days. The sophisticated and modern design of the calenders is timeless suiting the reusable nature of the packaging. Not only are they a fun way to mark an upcoming occasion but they are also designed to be made with sustainable materials.

The design that I chose to develop further had embossed type on the top of the design. This was a very hard technique to figure out how to do at home. Initially I tried moulding the letters out of polymer clay but they were too small making it extremely difficult. After immense research and thought I decided to try using a rotary tool to make my own stencil. After tracing the text and applying it to some ply wood I bought I etched the letters into the wood. It was a painful process that thankfully worked. However It was really hard to get the pressure right when embossing and also figuring out where to position the design on top of the stencil.
